This week marks my sixth week as a practicum teacher. In my previous entry, I mentioned that this week is dedicated to English language activities. Additionally, I mentioned that we, a group of English practicum teachers, need to organize an "explore race" game for this week. Regarding the lessons with the students, I must say that everything went very well. Most of the planned lessons for this week were successfully conducted. Only one lesson for the Form 3 students had to be postponed to the following day because I distributed their writing papers and discussed the paper with them.
Now, let's discuss the preparation for the explore race activity. It cannot be denied that we were quite busy during that time. We returned from school at around 4 o'clock on Monday and Tuesday to prepare for the explore race game and other related tasks for English Week. Some of the tasks we undertook included preparing materials for each checkpoint and assisting in arranging prizes for the participating students. Moreover, we had to organize other activities such as word searches and riddles for each Form 3 to Form 5 class.
When everything was ready, the much-awaited day finally arrived on Wednesday when the explore race took place. On Wednesday morning, we had a meeting with the students who would assist in managing the explore race. Then, the explore race began at 2:30 in the afternoon and lasted until 4:30. I acted as the emcee for this event. At 2:20 in the afternoon, I sounded the siren and then made an announcement asking the participating students to gather at Dataran Muhibah. Exactly at 2:30, I commenced the event, ensuring that all the groups were formed and that there were an equal number of groups. I also explained some important aspects of the game, such as the use of checkpoint papers and how the winners would be determined. After all the necessary instructions were given, the first clue and checkpoint papers were handed out to each group by the facilitators.
After all the groups had received their checkpoint papers and first clue, the event was officially opened by Deputy Headmistress, Ms. Siti Noriza. After Ms. Noriza sounded the siren, the game officially began. All the students rushed to find their first checkpoint based on their initial clue.
The explore race had its first, second, and third-place winners by 3:50 in the afternoon. So, precisely at 4 o'clock, I, as the emcee, sounded the siren once again and asked all the groups that had not finished to gather at Dataran Muhibah once more. After all the students and volunteers had gathered, a photo session was conducted with Ms. Aidah (Head of English Department), Ms. Noriza (Deputy Headmistress), and Ms. Norehan (Principal).
Around 4:30 in the afternoon, everything was completed, and the students were allowed to go home. The following day was a typical day for me, with regular teaching and the relief classes assigned to me.
Before I forget, for this explore race, we received praise from all the English teachers. It feels like our hard work has paid off. This makes me feel more confident to try anything they request to demonstrate our abilities. 😊
I believe that's all for this week. Below, I have included my SWOT analysis for this week:
